Katie Giles is a second year English student who has veered horrendously off course into the arms of PA. Which is strange, as she started her university career thinking she was honestly going to get some work done and read a lot of fun books. She can often be found in the company of Ben Walker, and their more or less joining at the hip has earned them more than a few funny looks in the past.

Having had a minor diversion into the "acid trip" of The Case of the Film Genre Killer in 2014 with ComedySoc, Katie then went on to be the world's most cult-orientated fresher possible once joining H.M.S Pinafore in February 2015 with Ben Walker, having been told by Joe Hand their esteemed director that "It's the society of bastards, cripples and broken things." I wonder now whether that was an insult to ourselves, but I digress. She then had a taste of being a Victorian lady, able to muck around at the back with little power and little responsibility besides bobbing and repeating her status, and got hooked on the illusion of friends. Having earned herself the title of "Biggest Fan" (because what is life without a few puns on being a SCA?) and taking a quick trip to Fairyland, AKA Harrogate with the Harrogate run of Iolanthe, she is now throwing herself fully into the role of Grumpiest Russian Peasant in the Land in LOpSoc's 2016 show, Fiddler on the Roof.
Having started her PA career pretending to be both a French woman and an easily distracted factory worker in ComedySoc's 2014 "acid trip" of a show The Case of the Film Genre Killer, Katie then had her post-show blues exploited by her fellow cast member Joe Hand, who was directing HMS Pinafore 2015 at the time. Joe's heartless pragmatism (he needed more altos for the Sisters, Cousins and Aunts chorus) paid off, as she went on to be the world's most cult-orientated fresher possible when she boarded H.M.S Pinafore in February 2015. She was seduced by the opportunity to be a Victorian lady, bob and repeat her status endlessly, even going as far as to buy the DVD of LOpSoc's performance of The Pirates of Penzance 2014 - a show which happened before she even came to university and thus she wasn't even in. In her words, "It's still a good show, who cares". Such commitment to the society earned her the title of LOpSoc's "Biggest Fan", a title which can now only be relinquished in the event of her death in a duel with another worthy foe.

Her ambition in life is to gain some power as a principal and then hope that the power doesn't corrupt her pure heart.
In August 2015, she joined the Fairy Chorus for the 2015 Harrogate run of Iolanthe, becoming a punk rock fairy who doesn't play by the rules (unless the Fairy King tells her to). She is now throwing herself fully into the role of Grumpiest Yiddish Peasant in the Land in LOpSoc's 2016 show, Fiddler on the Roof. To be honest, she only joined to get a chance to club Ben into the dust.

* Has managed to convince more or less everybody in every show she's been in that she's dating Ben Walker. She isn't, and never has been.
* Was responsible for the psychological destruction of Joe Hand at the 2015 Bunfight.
* Produced enough static electricity with one hand fan during the run of HMS Pinafore to power all university buildings on Highfield for three days.
* Best damn cake maker in the business.
* Madame President of the Alto Revolution
* Harbours a great love for William Shakespeare and Diet Coke - in fact, she likes this combination more than anyone else in the world.

Major Achievements
* Has managed so far to convince people in every show she's been in that she's dating Ben Walker. She is not.
* Accidental brutal truths. (Sorry Joe.)
* Creating a veritable hurricane with one lowly hand fan during H.M.S. Pinafore
* Creating an alto force of nature with Rhona and Emma, to name but a few. We must head an alto revolution.
* Bribing fellow cast members to love her with cake. It worked. And didn't kill them. They even enjoyed it. Rhona had three, and therefore I maintain that they can't have been so bad.
*Buying DVDS of shows she wasn't even in, to know exactly what older members are talking about.
*Again, biggest LOpSoc whore going.
* Shakespeare. Just. Shakespeare. Never get her talking about Shakespeare. Fifteen minute rants about Victoriana Hamlet will happen.

Katie attempting to pull off being a punk rock fairy by not smiling in Harrogate 2015

Biography

Katie Giles is a second year English student who has veered horrendously off course into the arms of PA. Which is strange, as she started her university career thinking she was honestly going to get some work done and read a lot of fun books. She can often be found in the company of Ben Walker, and their more or less joining at the hip has earned them more than a few funny looks in the past.
